The Artistry of William "Rock" Jackson Part 2

The Artistry of William "Rock" Jackson

William "Rock" Jackson advertised his business as that of tombstone or headboard maker, but after visiting several cemeteries with his headboards I've come to the conclusion that Mr. Jackson was an artist and a very unique one. (Some refer to his work as headstones, but Jackson called them headboards).  Walking through the cemeteries I found the carvings below to be most interesting.

Hands clasped
Pictured below is my favorite design found on the headboard of Neal K. Wilkinson in Long Cane Cemetery in Troup Co., GA. The script on the headboards is also unique.

(notice that the index fingers are pointed to each other.)

Hand

Hearts
Jackson carved various types of hearts on the headboards.

Hands of Time
(Time will stop here)

Flowers and Vines

Geometric Shapes

The All Seeing Eye

Starbursts

Willow Trees

Frames

Crosses, Lines and Curves

Masonic Symbols

You can visit these cemeteries to find Jackson headstones:

Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church in Chambers County, Al
Milltown Cemetery, Chambers County, Al
Long Cane Baptist Church in Troup County, GA
Bethesda United Methodist Church, Meriwether County, GA

Sidestep Adventures into History has two videos about William Rock Jackson

What other interesting designs can you find?
